Who Owns the US Media? The Big 6

Who Owns the US Media? The Big 6

Just six organizations own the vast majority of US media outlets although the exact lineup shifts with mergers. In 2025 this began reorganizing again, partially due to consolidation for the continued evolution of artificial intelligence, but as of this writing here is the breakdown (we’ll do a follow up on this later).

The Current Major Players (and what they own):

  • The Walt Disney Company: (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, ABC, ESPN, National Geographic, Hulu stake).
  • Comcast (NBCUniversal): (NBC, Universal Pictures, MSNBC, E!, Peacock, Xfinity).
  • Warner Bros. Discovery: (HBO, CNN, Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Pictures, Max).
  • Paramount Global (formerly Viacom CBS): (CBS, Paramount Pictures, Showtime, Nickelodeon, MTV).
  • Fox Corporation (News Corp): (Fox News, Fox Broadcasting, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post).
  • Sony (Sony Pictures Entertainment): (Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Sony Music, Crunchyroll).

PLUS: BlackRock and Vanguard

These two investment firms own significant shares in ALL of these companies, effectively controlling their strategic direction. For example:

  • Vanguard is a top shareholder in Comcast, Disney, and NewsCorp.
  • BlackRock is a top shareholder in Warner Bros Discovery, Fox, and Paramount.

Result: Different media outlets may appear ideologically opposed (e.g., Fox News vs. CNN), but their owners profit regardless of narrative. The conflict itself drives division, ratings, and distraction. And remember from our previous post: The World’s Biggest Secret, they are the powerhouses that ALSO have significant control in defense, big pharma, and technology. Their investment portfolios link them directly to international governments, corporations, and major media.

The Bottom Line

Almost every bit of content you consume is managed by a handful of mega entities with interests that align. They do this through:

Editorial Pressure & Board Overlap

Media outlets have executives and board members who also sit on boards of:

  • Big banks (e.g., JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs)
  • Defense contractors (e.g., Raytheon, Northrop Grumman)
  • Big Pharma companies

Example:

  • ABC News (Disney): Board ties to JPMorgan.
  • CNN (Warner Bros): Parent company executives with financial sector interests.
  • Fox News (NewsCorp): Rupert Murdoch has deep ties with politicians in the US, UK, and Australia, shaping public policy.

Narrative Control Mechanisms

  • Agenda Setting: Selectively choosing what topics to cover and which to ignore. Example: Extensive coverage of celebrity scandals, minimal on lobbying corruption.
  • Framing: Presenting facts in ways that align with ownership interests.
    • Pro-war framing by CNN, MSNBC during the Iraq war.
    • Downplaying Wall Street crimes in the 2008 financial collapse.
  • Expert Guests: Regular use of "former intelligence officials" or military generals who are on defense contractors' payrolls.
  • Advertiser Influence: Major advertisers (pharma, finance, tech) can indirectly control what narratives are acceptable.

Modern Digital Control

  • All the social media platforms filter what content reaches users via algorithms.
  • Content questioning US foreign policy, corporate malfeasance, or elite corruption is downranked, demonetized, or shadow banned.
  • These companies have:
    • CIA/NSA links
    • Financial relationships with BlackRock and Vanguard.
We now exist in a world with only the illusion of choice. Everything is a carefully curated play. Regardless of outlet, the overarching themes remain the same: protect the machine.
